A Tradition of Quality

Commercial Lithographing Company was founded in 1923 by a group of working trades’ people from various shops in Kansas City, who came together for the purpose of realizing the dream of being in business for themselves. Among them was Fred Pfeiffer, the son of German immigrants. Fred Pfeiffer was a very talented mechanic, who had run the first offset lithographing press to come to Kansas City. He had also served as the first president of the Graphic Arts International Union, Local #235

The company was started with a limited amount of equipment in the basement of a manufacturing building in Kansas City’s Northeast. In 1926, we built our first building, which forms the corner stone of our present facility at 1226 Chestnut.

From this original small building, our facility has expanded to include a complex of buildings that contains 150,000 square feet under one roof. The printing facility, a parking facility, storage building and vacant land for future expansion cover nearly all of two and a half city blocks.

Although our company was founded on a shoestring, we have built one of the most technologically sophisticated printing facilities in the world: One which contains state-of-the-art equipment, manufactured worldwide.

The development of our production facility was undertaken beginning in the years following the Second World War by Fred Pfeiffer’s four sons, Bill Pfeiffer, Sr., John Pfeiffer, Tom Pfeiffer, and Carl Pfeiffer, along with one daughter-in-law, Corky Pfeiffer

Today, the third generation of Pfeiffers manage the Corporation with the guidance of Bill Pfeiffer, Sr., Chairman of the Board.
